I created this presentation to share with school counselors about how to help kids transition back to school after a brain injury. I’m not just referring to a severely traumatic brain injury, but any child who has had an insult to their brain. This could include concussion, meningitis or even taking too much of a medication. Any event that effects the brain function is considered a brain injury.
When returning to school, many of these students are unable to take on their full coursework. Brain injury causes exhaustion and may have some long-term effects that cause difficulty for the student. It is therefore really important that parents and school personnel work together to come up with a transition plan for the student.
