There are many people in the special education world who champion causes to help kids with learning challenges. Scott Barry Kaufman is one of the more unique activists in that he himself had learning challenges that he overcame. He truly is a symbol of the potential of an individual, despite the labels that have been put onto him.

Here is a fabulous TedX Talk where Dr. Kaufman presents his views on the potential for intelligence when a student is labeled learning disabled. He shares his views on IQ and standardized tests and how they can block the path of of a student who could be holding incredible potential. Dr. Kaufman literally had to beat the system to go onto to gain his doctorate. His perspectives are invaluable to parents who worry their child will never find success because of difficulties with learning.
